Purpose and Program

The ACORN Institute Canada (AIC) uses research and training to address the problems in low-income communities identified through years of community organizing by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, Canada (ACORN Canada).

We believe that the poverty, discrimination, and community deterioration that exists in low-income communities is a result of a lack of civic engagement, community leadership and financial literacy.

AIC exists to address these deficiencies by researching issues relevant to low-income communities and by making that research available to low-income people.

AIC aspires to provide information that enables individuals and groups to act through education and training sessions focused on programmatic and legal options, community organization models, neighborhood awareness, and more.

AIC's research and training includes information about fair housing, tenants rights, living wages, and other issues impacting low income communities.
